Week 1
It’s great to be back at C&M after taking one last semester at Central Michigan University in order to graduate. The reason I say back is because I interned here last summer, and I was more than excited to come back. I now have my diploma, and look forward to the regular work life.
One thing that made me excited about coming back was the people that I worked with. While it does sound cliché, the people that I worked with is a reason that I wanted to come back and work here full time. Everyone made me feel welcomed, and helped me whenever I needed it. This still holds true.
So far C&M is what I expected, but that is simply because I was here before and knew, for the most part, what C&M is all about. And that is to get ready to work in a great atmosphere. With that being said there hasn’t been anything to surprise me this time around. The first time, however, I was surprised I would get trained on taxes. This time around I knew I would be getting it, and it made a lot more sense this time around.
The thing I am looking forward to the most is to start working on some client work and learn about some things I didn’t learn about during my internship. This has been a great experience for me and I can’t wait to progress as a full time employee now!
Month 1
First and foremost, I can’t believe that a month has gone by. The time has flown by and I’m excited for the next few months as well. I’ve enjoyed my experience thus far and enjoy coming to work every day. That is one of the most important things for me. This month has really been positive for me and has led to many learning experiences.
The best thing I like about working at C&M is the awesome atmosphere that the company represents. All the people that work here are awesome, and I can go talk to whoever and they are willing to help or even just have a conversation with you. That is one thing that I like the best about working at C&M
Probably the one moment that is memorable so far was going out to my first client for an audit. While I’ve been out to clients dealing with 401(k)s from my internship, I hadn’t been out to an audit client. It was great to see some of the other things we do as a firm for these type of clients.
Overall, I’ve had a great experience at C&M, and it’s great to be back working with many of the people I worked with in the summer. It’s nice getting back into the swing of things and working on a different assortment of clients.
Month 6
If I were to describe the past 6 months at C&M in one word, the word would be “exhilarating.” Everyone, myself included, has worked jobs that they don’t care for and hate in general. I have never once felt that at C&M. Exhilarating is best described as making one feel elated/happy. That’s how I feel when I go to work here. I wake up looking forward to work, and not everyone can say that. Everyone here has helped me feel that way. I also feel that I have grown a lot and have gained a lot of knowledge/experience that will only help me in the future. I’m very excited for the future.
The most valuable skill that I have mastered is my ability to be organized. At times it could be become overwhelming with all the work that needs to be done, especially when you are on multiple clients. Your team members may come up to you at any point during the day and ask you have things are going or where a project is at. Staying organized has helped me to not only communicate these items, but keep myself on track to make sure that I get done some of the things with the most priority.
The advice I would give to someone just starting out in their career is to just try. When I say this I don’t mean just in your work, but even your working relationships. Try to talk to someone new or go out to eat with someone. Try to speak up and ask the questions that you’ve had. Try a new project that may be hard. I truly believe that if you put in the effort, the results will come and you will be rewarded. But that only comes from trying.
